FAQ

Up until now, there were not that many techniques to upcycle plastics and often they were too expensive. PET bottles could not be recycled endlessly; after six cycles of ‘mechanical recycling’, the quality of the plastic deteriorates so much that it can no longer be used in high quality applications. On top of that, there was an additional problem in that not all bottles could be recycled. Coloured bottles were especially problematic.”

We are driven by pragmatism and optimism when it concerns the problem with plastics. We have all contributed to this enormous mess on this planet, but with this fantastic technology, we can solve the plastics problem NOW! This is because we can use the plastic as a raw material and upcycle it endlessly. This truly is killing two birds with one stone! NOW it becomes clear what the true impact of our technology on the planet will be.”

By buying – and demanding – upcycled PET bottles instead of new ones made from oil. That is how you can contribute to a better and cleaner environment, by preventing plastics from ending up in incinerators, landfills and the oceans. We have to start the movement NOW. We MUST and we CAN!

The method we use is called depolymerisation. This is where you take a plastic, also known as a polymer, and submerge it in a solution, such as water or glycol. The molecular structure of the polymer, which consists of identical units (the monomers), will then slowly start to dissolve. With the raw material that we harvest we can produce new, clear PET bottles that are food safe.”

No, but our process is unique, and our technology has already been proven on every scale, first in our labs, then in the demonstration factory, and now in our industrial-scale factory that will produce 10,000 metric tons of PET raw materials per year. NOW means action and a better future. Not just on paper or in a laboratory.

The quality of our upcycled PET bottles and our packaging for food is extremely high, something that we are very proud of. This means that we can make new PET bottles and packaging suitable for the food industry. We even showed that we can remove contaminants and get it back to apure raw material state, that is suitable for food packaging. This makes our process truly unique.”

Absolutely! We think we do a great job, but at the moment only 10% to 20% of plastics are recycled. The rest goes in incinerators (40% in Europe) or disappears in landfills (40% in Europe), or worse, into the ocean (5-10% in Europe). In the US there is even less recycling, and in the whole of Asia it drops down to almost 0%.
These are enormous volumes. There are even predictions that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. We offer a crucial, readily available solution for a substantial part of the plastics problem NOW!”
